Why is Transformer Iron Core Grounded from one point only?
Answer:
The Metal Sheets used for Transformer Core are Isolated/insulated from each other.
The Core is Grounded by connecting it to Structure of the Metal Transformer, which is grounded.
This Core Grounding is done from one Point only, because Multiple Grounding will result in Circulating Current, which inturn will heat up the Transformer.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Why is Transformer Core Grounded?
Ans: The Core is Grounded for Discharging any Electrical Charge or Voltage that may develop due Mutual Inductance between the Windings.
What happens if Transformer Core is not Grounded?
Ans: If the Transformer Core is not Grounded, the induced Voltage resulting from the Mutual Inductance between the Windings, may Damage the Insulation between the Metal Sheets of the Core. This will result into Internal Discharge.
